Season 1 Episode 1 : Welcome to the Hellmouth

Ahhh, it all comes back to you when you start rewatching the episodes. I forgot about the corny little intro they do. I am curious when they stopped that, I guess I will soon see.

There is Buffy with her padded bra and he baby fat. It's weird to see her in the first season if you have more recent memories of the later season or her recent movies. Her cheeks are all puffy along with her butt.

Willow is looking the part of the nerd wonderfully in the 1st season. The clothes, the waifish body, the blah hairdo.

Xander is Xander. Definitely the opposite of Buffy when it comes to weight. He is a svelte man in this unlike his plumpness in the later seasons.

Cordelia, ahhh, same person episode one as she was throughout the series and Angel.

Giles is a little more uptight and British early on.

Some notable appearances would be Darla. I totally forgot that she was in Buffy or even in the first episode. Angel makes his appearance as well playing the part of the brooding vampire gone good. And jesus, the cross he gave her was big enough to go on top of an actual church. For some reason I thought it was smaller. Maybe it gets smaller in scale as the season rolls on. Ahh, Prinicpal Flutie, how could I forget about you, or more importantly what happened to you. Jesse, who you may know better as Milo on 24, was also in the episode.

The basic jist of this episode is getting to know the characters. Buffy is coming to a new school, Sunnydale, after getting kicked out of her High School in Los Angeles. We find out that she is a Vampire Slayer and Giles, the schools Librarian is a Watcher, who looks out for the Slayer. Seems Sunnydale is the location of the Hellmouth and it is about to open up. Angel makes his appearance to let Buffy know hat trouble is afoot and a Harvest will soon be happening and allow The Master to walk the earth. This of course is not a good thing. Xander and Willow get involved and thus creates the Slayerettes as Willow declares in a later episode, but I like the Scooby Gang. The episode ends on a cliff hanger as it is part 1 of 2.

All in all an pretty decent episode for a pilot. There is some really wacky camera angles and shots that thankfully are never seen again and the writing isn't half bad.

I will give this episode 5 stakes out of 10.
